Community Involvement

The Buttonwood Financial Group team is proud to be an active member and support the community through direct participation, volunteer work, as well as financially. 

Jon & Wendy McGraw established The Buttonwood Foundation, a private family foundation which receives a portion of the profits from Buttonwood Financial Group on a regular basis. 

Organizations the Buttonwood Team and Foundation actively support include those with an emphasis on the Arts, Education, International, Equestrian, and Medicine.  A partial list of those groups and organizations follows:

Buttonwood Art Space is the place to see regional and upcoming artists themed exhibits all year and often serve as a fundraiser for area non-profit groups.

Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors remains dedicated to the development and promotion of this vibrant, historic and uniquely American Art form: Jazz.

Jazz Friends is the community support group for the UMKC Conservatory Jazz Studies Program. The annual scholarship fundraiser for jazz friends is Jazz & BBQ - held in October each year.

American Jazz Museum - As one of the greatest purveyors of jazz, Kansas City continues to put an indelible mark on the music – and within its borders is one of the important incubators of the art form, the American Jazz Museum.

Symphony In The Flint Hills has the goal to: “provide an experience of great music in the Flint Hills, and bring together art and environment to nourish the soul. No politics and no hidden agendas; just a simple pairing of music and prairie for an unforgettable and soul-enriching evening.”

University of Missouri Kansas City connects education with a dynamic city and its people by providing nationally recognized programs and sharing its facilities with the community.

University of Northern Colorado offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts, sciences, humanities, business, human sciences and education.

Operation Breakthrough. The mission of Operation Breakthrough is to help children who are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment.

The Children’s Place is a nurturing, caring place for the very youngest survivors of abuse, neglect and other childhood traumas. Our therapists, teachers, staff and volunteers are dedicated to helping traumatized children experience healing and gain new hope for the future.

Christian Foundation for Children and Aging serves the poor at mission sites around the world through sponsorship of children.

International Relations Council is the leading providor of world-affairs education in the Kansas City region, IRC programs touch 30,000 people in the community.

People to People International enhances international understanding and friendship through educational, cultural and humanitarian activities through international exchange.

Sister City Association of Kansas City, MO is an international citizen’s diplomatic organization that supports innovative programs in commerce, tourism, education and cultural awareness.

Wayside Waifs is the largest pet adoption center in Kansas City, placing over 5,400 animals each year in loving forever homes. Wayside does not euthanize adoptable animals. Several Buttonwood staff have adopted pets from Wayside and routinely foster pets to acclimatize them to other animals and provide care when the shelter is full.

Friends of KC Animals is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) liaison between area shelters, rescue groups and the public, helping our community's abused, neglected, lost and abandoned animals. FoKCA secures rescue for shelter animals and strays, gathers donations for area shelters and rescues, organizes adoption events and pays for medical treatment of ownerless dogs, cats and the like that would otherwise receive no attention.

American Association of Equine Practitioners whose mission is to improve the health and welfare of the horse and to provide resources for the benefit of the equine industry.

United States Equestrian Federation. As the National Governing Body of Equestrian Sport in the United States USEF inspires, encourages interest in, and regulates equestrian competition by ensuring the safety and well-being of horses.

United States Dressage Federation. USDF was established for the purpose of promoting and encouraging a high standard of accomplishment in dressage throughout the United States, primarily through educational programs.

Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association sets standards for registration of animals in the Association with the idea of providing breeders options to select and breed.  Also, the Association seeks acquaint horse lovers and the general public with accepted standards and goals of the MFTHBA.

Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City strives deliver superior, innovative programs and services and empower the people we serve and their families to take charge of their lives. We do this by:, honoring choices and creating options; developing and maintaining staff expertise; maintaining state-of-the-art facilities; equipment and technologies; being flexible in meeting the needs of persons served; and maintaining financial viability.

Susan G. Komen - Breast Cancer Foundation is a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach.

Prostate Cancer Research educates patients and families about prostate cancer including new advances in diagnosis, staging, treatments and available resources.
